Join me for a 3 days / 2 nights photography workshop in Glencoe. I will be giving hands on advice on how to plan for your shots, get the right composition on location and get the best results with your camera. We will share together our passion for landscape photography in this world-class photographic destination.
This photography workshop in Glencoe is open to everyone wanting to learn, improve, share, or photograph the landscapes of Scotland. I will be leading a small group, and there will be plenty of opportunity for individual tuition as well.

Itinerary*
Meeting in Edinburgh airport and travelling to Glencoe
We will meet at Edinburgh airport (a short tram ride from the city centre) in the morning. After a short briefing, we will hit the road north towards the Highlands.
Glencoe and surrounding valleys
Day 1: Begin your adventure with our first shots of the workshops in the breathtaking Trossachs National Park, before heading towards Glencoe. We will capture the dramatic peaks of Glencoe and photograph the sunset over the valley. As the day draws to a close, we will check-in our hotel for the next couple of days, where you will have the opportunity to rest as we prepare for the next few days of shooting.
Day 2: We will rise early to capture the majestic sunrise at Buachaille Etive Mòr, one of Scotland’s most iconic mountains. The morning light will reveal a spectacular show over the peak, perfect for photography. Afterward, we will explore Glen Etive, a stunning glen that stretches 20 miles through beautiful peaks and lochs. This area, famously featured in James Bond, offers endless opportunities to capture its natural beauty.
Day 3: On the last day, we will explore the hidden gems of Glencoe and the surrounding area. Visit lesserknown spots to capture unique perspectives, and perhaps even practice some advanced techniques learned during the workshop. Reflect on the incredible sights and photographs you’ve taken before heading back towards Edinburgh to close the workshop.
*this itinerary may be adapted depending on the weather conditions or other considerations, but the itinerary will always be planned in order to maximize photographic opportunities while assuring safety of the group.

Who is the workshop for?

photograph the landscapes of Scotland. I will be leading a small group, and
there will be plenty of opportunity for individual tuition as well.
Are you a beginner? I will give you the basics of landscape photography,
and I will help you master your camera settings.
Are you a confident photographer? We will focus on more advanced
techniques and sharpen your eye for complex compositions.
Are you already a pro? We will go further and try to develop your artistic
vision in line with your personal aspirations.
Above all, it is a vibrant 8 days surrounded by a team of landscape
photography enthusiasts discovering this uniquely beautiful part of the
world together.
Frequently asked questions
Equipment needed
Any digital camera that has a manual mode will be suitable for this workshop. I recommend the use of an SLR or a hybrid camera as well as a tripod in order to obtain better results. I will send you a full list of essential and recommended equipment before the workshop
Physical difficulty
Participants need to be able to walk independently, but most of the photo spots are within a few hundred yards from where we park, and do not require a high level of fitness. Terrain might include walking on tracks and some rocky ground on cliffs and beaches. If necessary, alternatives might be available if you cannot follow the group, depending on each spot. If in doubt, do not hesitate to contact me to discuss your needs
Meals
Depending on the day’s itinerary, meals will be taken at the hotel, in a pub, restaurant, or will be a packed meal. Why a packed meal? My priority is that we take full advantage of the locations we visit. Often, the best light for landscape photography is at the end of the day, around 30 minutes before and after sunset. There is nothing more frustrating than being in the right place but missing the best photo because we have to leave the spot for a meal reservation. Depending on the sunrise and sunset times on the dates of the workshop, we will have a packed meal on location in order to be on site and ready in the right place AND at the right time
Cancellation policy
Cancellation by the participant 90 days or more before the start of the workshop:
Loss of deposit amount only but refund of balance if it has already been paid by the participant. If your place is subsequently filled, we might offer to transfer the deposit towards any other available workshop within the subsequent 12 months (administration fees applicable, see terms and conditions).
Cancellation by the participant less than 90 days before the start of the workshop:
No refund. Loss of the full amount.
A transfer of the full amount to another workshop in the next 12 months may be possible should we (or you) find someone to fill the space. Any price difference will be charged to you (administration fees applicable, see terms and conditions).
Cancellation of the workshop by Jonathan Genevaux:
I will confirm the workshop by email as soon as a minimum of 5 participants have booked their spot and paid the deposit. In the event that I have to cancel a workshop before departure, all participants will of course be fully refunded (deposit and balance) and no fees will be applied.
Group size
My workshops are held in small groups of 4 to 7 people maximum to ensure that everyone is comfortable during the trip, and that I can provide the most individual tuition for each participant. I also value a small size group to limit our environmental footprint on the spots we will be visiting.
Accomodation
Accommodation will be provided in hotels at the heart of Glencoe, either in a shared twin room or a private double room depending on your booking preferences. Despite a busy schedule, there will be times for relaxing (or editing!) at the hotel. Some of the early sunrises might be optional allowing for participants to have a lie in, depending on the weather conditions and the final itinerary
Feedback and group tuition
Group tuition will be provided both on location and during down time at the hotel. There will be plenty of opportunities to look at our images from the past few days, analyse them together and even do some editing. It will also be an opportunity for me to share my knowledge on themes such as:
- Analysis of weather forecasts for our next photo outing
- Mastery of planning tools for landscape photography
- Long exposures and using filters
- Post-processing for landscape photography
- Etc
Travelling as a couple or with a friend
Each participating photographer is welcome to be joined by a non-photographer friend or family. However, the itinerary is designed to maximise photography opportunities, which involves leaving the hotel before sunrise and sometimes coming back after sunset. Unfortunately, the itinerary cannot be changed to accommodate any specific needs of nonphotographers, and they will be asked to join the group on the majority of photo outings, unless they are optional.
